Mazda temporarily suspends China Mazda3 production
|
Saturday, 22 April 2006 |
Japan's Mazda Motor Corp. said on Friday it has temporarily suspended production of its Mazda3 compact car model at a Chinese joint venture due to a flaw in the process to acquire government approval for the model's production.
Production at the plant in Chongqing, southwestern China, has been voluntarily suspended since April 7 after a Feb. 27 start, a Mazda spokesman in Tokyo said, adding it was unclear when it would resume. He said sales of the car in China, which started last month, have not been affected so far. The Hiroshima-based car maker has targeted sales of 20,000 Mazda3 cars in China this year. Mazda bought a 15 percent stake in the joint venture from Ford Motor Co. late last month, leaving the U.S. car maker with 35 percent of the venture. Changan Automotive Group holds the other half of the venture. Mazda declined to give details of the glitch in the application. |
