The Tokyo Motor Show is going back to its roots

Friday, 14 April 2006

Starting in 2007, the Tokyo Motor Show will be held every two years and include passenger cars, motorcycles and commercial vehicles. The 2007 show will be held Oct. 26 through Nov. 11, with press preview days Oct. 24-25.

The all-inclusive format is a shift back to the way the show was held from its beginning in 1954 until 1999.

In 1999, show organizer Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association switched to an annual format for the event. The show's content alternated – in odd-numbered years the show presented cars and motorcycles, and in even-numbered years it presented commercial vehicles.

The change for 2007 means that the Tokyo show will revert to a biennial, or every other year, format.

The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association said it believes the new format will be more convenient for visitors and enable people to better understand the efforts of the auto industry as a whole.
